The Lord gave us a powerful word from Luke 5: 1-7.
Â
Key points
1. In 2010 we must have a deeper hunger for God’s Word. In Luke 5:1, the multitude pressed on to Jesus to hear the word of God. This is what God is looking for in His people. A people with a hunger for Him and His Word. Notice that all the people were interested in was to hear the Word of God. So much so that they pressed on to the Lord. We must press into God and His Word in 2010.
Â
2. It does not matter what state we’re in. Whatever the situation is, God is able. The fishermen were washing their nets. This was a sign of despair, of failure, of hopelessness. They were thinking; well, it’s been an unfruitful day. We better wash our nets and go home. We must understand that despair is nothing when God is with you. Failure and disappointments are nothing when you are with God. He specialises in turning NOTHING into SOMETHING, NOBODIES into SOMEBODIES.. What a mighty God we serve! Hallelujah! (Lk5:2)
Â
3. We must be ready to commit our resources(money, time, knowledge, expertise, strength) into the work of God particularly into getting the Word of God out. God needs people to support the teaching of His Word. Peter released his boat for the use of the Master so He could teach the people the Word of God. It is the Word that makes the most impact in people’s lives. People may think that what they need is a job, a house, money, a wife, a husband  etc but what they really need is God’s Word. Jesus did not first talk to Peter about his situation of not catching any fishes. He asked him if he could release his boat for the teaching of the Word. The Word comes before our own needs. We must sow into the teaching of the Word to go out to all men.(Lk 5:3)
Â
4. We must be ready to act on the Word. One Word from God can change everything so when we hear the Word we must act on it immediately. Jesus asked Peter to launch into the deep. This is exactly what they’ve been doing all night and caught nothing. But there is a difference when you are doing something based on a word from God. Without the word they struggled. But in response to the Word they are about to experience a miracle beyond their dreams. Praise God! (Lk5:4-5)
Â
5. It is a year of abundant harvest. Every seed producing exceeding abundantly above in Jesus name. Amen. Abundant harvest of health, wealth, joy, peace, souls, success, excellence, marital bliss, our children’s lives etc (Lk5:6)
Â
6. The Lord says we will cry out for help but not for despair or for trouble. It wil be a cry for people to come and rejoice with you, to come and share in the joy of what God has done!.(Lk5:7)
